About 18 Restaurant
A restaurant fit for royalty, just a stone's throw from Windsor Castle, what could be more apt?
The prestigious Mercure Castle Hotel's restaurant, named 18 for the hotel's place on the High Street, boasts two AA rosettes, and the briefest glance of the menu can explain why.
Even as you are picking what you'd like to eat you are given the option to sample four kinds of freshly-baked breads. The menu takes the freshest ingredients in season and creates something sublime. There are five different options for each course on the a la carte menu, although with the fixed price menu offering different specials again this doesn't feel like a dearth of choice.
Go for the seared scallops, accompanied with sour apple purée, Avruga caviar and port reduction (£7.75), for a truly memorable starter, and then move on to the selection of beautifully cured meat - including locally sourced lamb and red deer venison for the main.
All the dishes on the menu are feast both for the tastebuds and the eyes, with the restaurant great value for something so high quality, nestling in the heart of royal Windsor.
